The Gerbermühle: sleep in a restored mill

Seeped in history, this former flour mill saw the meeting of Goethe and his muse Marianne, before becoming the Gerbermühle boutique hotel.

On the banks of the Main River, an affluent of the Rhine, the Gerbermühle is a hotel laden with history. It had been a flour mill in the 16th century, was destroyed in the Second World War, then rebuilt and enlarged numerous times. It was here that Goethe met Marianne von Willemer who could become a source of inspiration to the German poet.

The hotel Gerbermühle was renovated with taste, combing what remains of the mill with very contemporary architecture open to the exterior. Inside, the look is spare with light tones and antique furniture spread with parsimony throughout the 18 rooms. Among them, are five suites named after personalities that had inspired Goethe during his life.

The winter garden holds the hotel restaurant, while the summer garden is very sought after when warm weather returns. In the evening discover the Tower Bar, niched into the intact part of the original mill. The brick walls give it real authenticity.
