The artificial island of Sentosa is the best known, but it's also the most developed and tourist-oriented of the islands of Singapore.
If you want to truly get away, head out to the somewhat more distant islands, where there are fewer tourists and the more tranquil atmosphere still has the charm of yesteryear. Several options are available, depending on your interests. Pulau Ubi is quiet, beautiful, and deserted. Prized for its rich fauna, flora, beaches, and quarries, there you can still find some of the rural character of Singapore, and authentic cuisine based on fresh fish and seafood.
Kusu Island, literally ‘Turtle Island', is a sanctuary that attracts locals in search of good fortune and tourists on a mystical pilgrimage to its many temples and statues. To fully enjoy the sea, go to St John's Island, with its beautiful lagoons, where calm and serenity reign supreme. A lucky few might spot pink dolphins off the coast, while others can go diving in the magical and colourful world of underwater corals.
