Even before being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), whose current campus was built between 1950 and 1954, was already the pride of the country.
Established in 1910, it is the second oldest public university in America after that of Santo Domingo, and some of the most influential scientists, artists, and people in the world of politics have studied here. The campus houses the largest educational institution in the country as well as beautiful works by Mexican muralists like Diego Riviera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Today you will also find several large gardens, one of which includes a cultural space with prominent sculptures, a museum of contemporary art, a football stadium, cinemas, and a theatre.
Look on the university's website to find out about what plays are scheduled. They are always true artistic discoveries.
