A retired upholsterer from the Southern Pacific Railroad, John Martin Milkovisch began covering the facade of his house with beer cans in 1968. The owner of the Beer Can House in Houston just wished to pleasantly pass the time. The artistic dimension of the place was quickly noticed: beer cans, metal trinkets and pieces of aluminium merged harmoniously into a giant and habitable sculpture.
Upon John's death, his wife Mary took to offering tours of the surrealist work of art for a few dollars, and it quickly became one of the main attractions of the region. Purchased and restored by the Orange Show Foundation, the house is still open to an audience eager to discover the unusual sights of Texas.
