La Scala celebrates Mozart

By rejuvenating ‘The Marriage of Figaro', La Scala in Milan promises a great musical event, between modernity and Marivaux. An exclusive, cult opera moment.

Attending a classical opera under the gold ceiling of the legendary La Scala is a must in the Lombard capital. Especially since, to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the death of the brilliant Mozart, La Scala is putting on a 2016 production of Le Nozze di Figaro, written by the composer and inspired by the Beaumarchais comedy.

Under the baton of young director Franz Welser-Möst, the orchestra of La Scala exalts the great lyric voices of today. Markus Werba, Diana Damrau, and the promising French mezzo Marianne Crebassa are part of this top-flight offering, giving new lustre to a masterpiece that has not aged a bit.
