Developing a concept of close proximity with the cooks, Jeju Izakaya unveils a Korean cuisine with a bistronomic twist.

Jeju Izakaya has all the traits of a gastronomical myth: an intimate setting that serves only eight, no phone nor website, only a WeChat (the Chinese application) or Facebook contact to reserve. It is however no mirage, for hidden in a discreet Shanghai house, this fusion Korean restaurant will encourage the night's eight patrons to take a seat by the counter overlooking the kitchen. The place drew direct inspiration from Japanese izakayas, those small and affordable bistros in which closeness is key. Chan and Tom, the two Korean chefs, will chat with you as they prepare dinner, which will take the form of a tasting menu. Dishes come and go before you, with octopus ramen à la Jeju – Korean volcanic island –, a new interpretation of tteok-bokkis (very popular street food rice cakes) as well as tofu with kimchi and hollandaise sauce… You will not forget this authentic experience anytime soon!
