The maquis are small family-owned restaurants, very popular in Ivory Coast, suitable to surprises and discoveries. Chez Ambroise is one that will not forget anytime soon. There is barely any decoration, a mere dozen tables under a big tent, located in a small street across the main boulevard. Right next to you, expect local singers, tom-tom players and groups of acrobats to set the night on fire.
The ambiance becomes really festive and radiant smiles are a dime a dozen. On the menu, do not pass by the skewers, considered by many to be the best in Abidjan, just like the grilled fish and the braised chicken served with attiéké (cassava couscous), yam fries or alloco (plantain fried in oil). There may be a bit of waiting, so order some local beer (best enjoyed in moderation) in the meantime. The servings are copious, and all food lovers leave satisfied!
